Community College Education (EDCC)Graduate School of Education801 The Community College (3:3:0). Prerequisite: Admission to the D.A. program or permission of instructor. Studies the institutional character of the community college, including a review of its history, purpose, clientele, organization, finance, and social functions. Attention is given to current issues facing community colleges. 802 Community College Teaching Through Learning Styles (3:3:0). Prerequisite: Admission to the D.A. program or permission of instructor. Focuses on the theory of multiple styles of learning and various ways in which individuals demonstrate ability. Emphasizes alternative instructional approaches to enhance and measure the learning of community college students at risk for failure. Emphasizes study, analysis, and application to teaching in the community college. 805 Teaching Thinking (3:3:0). Prerequisite: Admission to the D.A. program or permission of instructor. Provides lecture, discussion, and demonstration to help students design, analyze, apply, and evaluate practical approaches to teaching critical thinking at the community college level. Stresses application to subject matter courses of the student's choice. 806 Seminar in Communication Skills for Teaching (3:3:0). Prerequisite: Admission to the D.A. program or permission of instructor. Studies principles and practices underlying effective lecturing and leading of instructional discussions. Application to the student's field of study is encouraged as a way of establishing the teaching environment. 892 Special Topics in Community College Education (3:3:0). Prerequisite:
Admission to the D.A. program or permission of instructor. Covers
a variety of current issues. May be repeated for credit.
