The interdisciplinary minor in Asia-Pacific Studies is designed for students
whose interests focus on the humanities and social sciences and Asia's role in
global systems and the cultural mosaic of human experience. In particular, a new
type of transregionalism is explored (i.e., the links between Asia and North America).
Requirements
To receive the minor in Asia-Pacific Studies students must complete a minimum
of 21 credits distributed as follows.

ARTH 383 Arts of Southeast Asia
ARTH 384 Arts of China
ARTH 385 Arts of Japan
GOVT 433 Political Economy of East Asia
GOVT 444 Issues in International Studies (if topic is on Asia)
GOVT 490 Seminar (if topic is on Asia)
HIST 353 History of Traditional China
HIST 354 Modern China
HIST 356 Modern Japan
RELI 314 Chinese Philosophies and Religious Traditions
RELI 315 The Buddhist Tradition
RELI 337 Mysticism: East and West
RELI 376 Special Topics in Religious Thought (if topic is on Asia)
Approved study abroad and/or internships or other courses as approved by the
coordinator of the interdisciplinary minor in Asia-Pacific Studies
Language courses in Chinese or Japanese are strongly recommended.
