SOM Alumni Chapter Hosts 2nd Annual Alumni Summit
School of Management alumni are cordially invited to attend the second annual Alumni Summit, hosted by the SOM alumni chapter, on Wednesday, April 25 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the newly completed Research Building on the Fairfax Campus. In this year's "Alumni Summit Smart Talk", Management professor Michelle Marks explores the divergent interests, attitudes, and motivations of Gen X and Gen Y workers.

Association Hosts Alumni at Virginia Gold Cup Races

Law Alumni Host Tenth Annual Judicial and Legislative Reception (JLR)
The George Mason Law School and the Law Alumni Chapter will host the 10th annual Judicial and Legislative Reception (JLR) on May 23 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the School of Law in Arlington. The reception features music and wine from across Virginia and presents a unique opportunity for alumni to gather with attorneys, judges, and legislators from Virginia and the District of Columbia.

International Week Reception for Alumni and Friends
On Saturday, April 14 as part of International Week 2007, Mason alumni are invited to network, socialize, and connect with other alumni, faculty, staff and students of Mason's international programs. Mathematics Professor Goldin Wins First Michler Prize
The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) and Cornell University announced that Rebecca Goldin, Mason associate professor of mathematics, will receive the first annual Ruth I. Michler Memorial Prize. According to AWM, the Michler Prize is unique in granting a mid-career woman in academe a residential fellowship in the Cornell University mathematics department without teaching obligations.

Mason Law Climbs to 34th in U.S. News Rankings
George Mason University's School of Law advanced to 34th in the 2008 U.S. News & World Report ranking of U.S. law schools, up three spots from last year. Mason's law school has moved steadily up the ranks since first cracking the top 50 in 2001. Mason remains the youngest law school ranked in the U.S. News & World Report's top 50.

Mason Receives $2.3 Million Computer Security Grant
Anup Ghosh, Mason professor and chief scientist at the Center for Secure Information Systems in the Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering, will serve as the principal investigator (PI) on a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) award of more than $4.8 million from the U.S. Department of Defense. As the lead institution, Mason will receive $2.3 million over five years. Other collaborators on the project are researchers at Columbia University and Penn State University.

New Cancer Treatments Developed By Mason Researchers
Mason proteomics researchers Lance Liotta and Emanuel Petricoin have formed a new company, Theranostics Health LLC, that will use their breakthrough technology to provide critical new services to medical professionals on the frontline of the war on cancer. Unlike any other existing approach, the new company's unique, proprietary technology developed at Mason will measure the activity of the actual protein drug targets in a patient's biopsy.

Visions Lecture Series: "Legacy of Life: Creating Healthy Futures"
On April 30, David S. Anderson, associate professor of education and director of the Center for the Advancement of Public Health will give a lecture as part of the Vision Lecture Series. Anderson's lecture, "Legacy of Life: Creating Healthy Futures," highlights seven prescriptions for healthier living, incorporating practical strategies for individual and collective action. This event is free but tickets are required.

Mason Freshman Wins 2 Golds at World Championships
Kate Ziegler, professional swimmer and volunteer coach for Mason's swim team, won 2 gold medals for the United States at the world championships recently held in Melbourne, Australia. Ziegler was the top women's finisher in the 800-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle events. The U.S. team won 20 gold medals, and 36 medals overall.

Ahoure Qualifies for NCAA East Regionals in Women's Track
Sophomore sprinter Murielle Ahoure earned a pair of second-place finishes at the Pepsi Florida Relays, held at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Fla. Ahoure finished second in both the 100- and 200-meter dash at the meet, posting times lower than the NCAA East Regional qualifying standard in both events.

Distance Runner Achieves IC4A Qualifying Mark
Distance runner Charles Millioen reached the IC4A qualifying standard in the 5000-meter run at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He will run in the event at the IC4A Outdoor Championships, slated for May 11-13 in Princeton, NJ. Millioen, a transfer student from Georgetown pursuing his master's degree at George Mason, crossed the finish line in 14:34.67 to place 11th out of the field of 59 competitors.
