Mason Rocks: Homecoming 2008 Now that you've got your brand-new 2008 calendar ready (or soon will), it's time to clear the decks and pencil in Mason's 2008 Homecoming. Special events and ticket discounts are planned for all Mason alumni. Although there will be plenty of "rockin'" events that week, the highlight undoubtedly will be when the men's basketball team plays the University of North Carolina-Wilmington Seahawks on February 16. Tip-off time is scheduled for either 6 or 8 p.m. (depending on television coverage). |

Real Estate Entrepreneurship Center Established at Mason The Washington, D.C., region is the fourth largest metro area in the United States, and its real estate market is one of the most desirable investment markets in the world. To serve this sector of the economy, Mason has established a new Center for Real Estate Entrepreneurship, a university-wide initiative that will further the educational and professional opportunities of real estate industry professionals in the national capital area and beyond.Read More» |

In
the wake of the California wildfires that burned more than 500,000
acres in October and November, many families and communities were faced
with significant loss. While financial support poured in, many people
still needed a shoulder to lean on. Counselors Without Borders, a
program begun at Mason following Hurricane Katrina, is the
nation’s first counseling program that includes graduate
students training to be counselors or psychologists under the
supervision of licensed professionals. The program is endorsed and
supported by three major counseling associations both nationally and
internationally. |

Board of Visitors Approves New Degrees At
its meeting on Wednesday, the George Mason University Board of Visitors
(BOV), the university's governing board, approved nine new degrees. All
but one are advanced degrees. The programs must now be approved by the
State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. |

Professors Take Entrepreneurship Expertise to Emerging Economies “We
have the world covered,” says Zoltan Acs of his worldwide
work on entrepreneurship with Roger Stough. The two School of Public
Policy (SPP) professors travel the globe each year to work with
technology accelerators, advise policy makers and share their

Mason Partners with NVCC on Accelerated Nursing Program The nation’s nursing shortage poses a significant threat to health care delivery, especially since demand is expected to rise dramatically in the coming years. The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) and the Division of Nursing at Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) are teaming up to do their part to alleviate the problem. Beginning in the spring of 2008, the institutions are jointly offering an accelerated path into the profession of nursing with the “Momentum 2 + 1” program.Read More» |

Mason Athletes Win Honors Kelley Keelan and Jessica Paris were both selected to the third-team All-CAAfor women’s soccer, and Robert Krause was named Male Student-Athlete of the Month for cross country. In addition, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that Mason’s softball team was in the top 20 in the country on the Top All-Academic Teams list for Division I, with a cumulative team GPA of 3.370. Two Juniors Named to Baseball's Wallace Watch List for National Player of the Year George Mason juniors Jordan Flasher and Scott Krieger had excellent sophomore seasons and with the 2008 campaign scheduled to start in two months, each was honored by being named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List The Wallace Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate baseball player in conjunction with the College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual induction festivities.
