IT IS NOT A COINCIDENCE THAT STYN JAMU, BS Psychology '99, MPA '00, and his wife, Lisa, named their nonprofit organization Stepping Stones International. Stones and rocks have been fundamental to many major moments in their lives. Now, they are looking to polish rocks into gems by turning orphaned children into educated, confident adults even in the face of tragedy.

EACH YEAR, THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION HOLDS OFFICER ELECTIONS for its Board of Directors. Ballots are published in the Mason Spirit magazine and are cast by mail by Mason alumni. Each elected member is ratified to hold their leadership position based on demonstrated involvement, support, and commitment to the association and university.

THE INSTITUTE FOR CONFLICT ANALYSIS AND RESOLUTION (ICAR) is launching four new graduate certificate programs for midcareer professionals this fall. The certificate programs will cover topics ranging from collaborative leadership in community planning to diplomacy in world religions. The four new areas of study are conflict analysis and resolution advanced skills; conflict analysis and resolution collaborative leadership in community planning; conflict analysis and resolution for prevention, reconstruction and stabilization contexts; and world religions, diplomacy and conflict resolution.

GEORGE MASON WILL PERMIT HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS with strong academic records to apply for admission without standardized test scores, becoming one of the largest competitive public universities in the nation to offer such a policy. Beginning this fall, seniors with cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher who rank in the top 20 percent of their class will have the option of being considered for admission without submitting SAT or ACT scores.

ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE RESEARCH PROFESSOR ALLAN TURNER has been working as a senior fellow with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and is overseeing the Homeland Security Comprehensive Assessment Model (HLS-CAM) and Automated Video Security Technology Demonstration Project.

FROM A CONSTRUCTION STANDPOINT, it's going to be an exciting summer at all of the campuses at George Mason," says Tom Calhoun, vice president for facilities. His department has a full plate this summer, which translates into construction projects that may affect movement, pedestrian and vehicular, and parking on the campuses. The end result, of course, is improved physical facilities for Mason students.

Coach Jim LarranagaWILL GEORGE MASON'S MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM add yet another trophy to the mantle from this magical season? It's highly probable! ESPN will announce its nominations on Monday, June 26th for the 14th Annual ESPY Awards, and the Patriots could find themselves up for two awards in the categories for "Best upset" and "Best coach". A one-hour 2006 ESPY Awards nomination show will air on ESPN Tuesday, June 27th at 7 p.m. (EST) showcasing the nominees. The winners are announced at the ESPY Awards Show on Wednesday, July 12. Fans across the country vote via the Internet from June 26th until midnight on Saturday, July 8th. Be a Patriot!

Jen Derevjanik. FORMER MASON GUARD JEN DEREVJANIK (Staten Island, N.Y.) extends her WNBA playing career as she signed with the Phoenix Mercury to play the 2006 season under former Mason men's head basketball coach, Paul Westhead (1993-97). For the past two years, Derevjanik played for the Connecticut Sun and became just the second player in Mason's history to play in the WNBA as Keri Chaconas played for the Washington Mystics during the 1998 season.

Tyler Tisdell was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team at 165 pounds.REDSHIRT FRESHMAN TYLER TISDELL WAS NAMED to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team for his outstanding season, which culminated with a berth to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City. Tisdell, who made the team at 165 pounds, led the team with 28 wins and nine major decisions. He was 8-1 in conference matches, finishing as the runner-up at 165 pounds at the CAA Championships, upsetting the No. 2 seed.

GEORGE MASON'S FORMER STANDOUT CATCHER ROBBY JACOBSEN has been selected in the 22nd round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. The Washington Nationals selected the Waldorf, Md., native on the second day of the two-day 50-round draft. Jacobsen concluded a tremendous four-year career this past season at Mason, playing 30 games in the outfield and 21 games at catcher.

Jason Mills was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles.TWO MORE MASON BASEBALL PLAYERS WERE DRAFTED by Major League Baseball (MLB) in the Amateur Draft. The Baltimore Orioles selected George Mason pitcher Jason Mills in the 48th round of the draft on June 7. In addition, pitcher J.J. Pannell was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 50th round during the two-day 50-round draft.

Marc Kellman finished fifth in the triple jump at the National Championships.
ON THE FINAL JUMP OF HIS COLLEGIATE CAREER, senior Marc Kellman bounded from seventh place to a fifth-place finish in the men's triple jump finals at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The jump of 15.97 meters (52 ft. 4.75 in.) and fifth-place finish earns Kellman All-America status for the third time in his career.
