The campus community gathered to cheer on the men's basketball team before the CAA Tournament. Now, the team is headed to the NCAA Championships!

THE CENTER FOR GLOBAL EDUCATION at George Mason University is offering over 20 intensive language programs and study tours around the world - Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa - open to students, alumni, and the general public. Programs run between 2 weeks and 8 weeks and are all faculty-led and costs are inclusive. Application deadline is April 7.

THE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY ALUMNI CHAPTER will host a Panel Discussion on "Ethics in Practice" on Friday, March 31, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m., in Room 329 of the Original Building on the Arlington campus. The panel discussion and audience participation is expected to last from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. It will be preceded by a light reception and conversation. No RSVP is needed.

GEORGE MASON'S LOUDOUN SITE will be expanding operations beginning in late March. The site is currently 8,000 square feet and will be expanded to 20,000 square feet by late August, according to Sondra Patrick, director of Loudoun operations. Mason in Loudoun began offering classes last August. The facility is located on the second floor of the Ridgetop Two building near the Dulles Town Center.

GEORGE MASON SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITH ST. MARTINUS UNIVERSITY (SMU) Faculty of Medicine, located on the Caribbean island of Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles. The agreement will enable qualified Mason undergraduates to use 12 of their biology credits toward their first year of medical school at SMU, saving both time and money. The agreement also provides an annual George Mason - St. Martinus Presidential Medical Scholarship for an academically qualified Mason student with financial need. |
CO-DEANS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED for the future College of Science. Menas Kafatos, currently dean of the School of Computational Sciences, and Vikas Chandhoke, currently associate dean of research for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and director of life sciences, will serve as co-deans of George Mason's newly created College of Science (COS), effective July 1, Provost Peter Stearns announced.

MASON'S GRADUATE PROGRAM IN TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT, part of the School of Management (SOM), has been selected by the U.S. Army's Medical Department and school based in Texas as one of two approved programs for its health services information technology managers and executives. Mason's technology program combines the study of leadership, management and analytical skills with a focus on the evolving technology challenges facing contemporary technology professionals.

LEAP (LIBERAL EDUCATION AND AMERICA'S PROMISE) has come to George Mason University. A new initiative from the Association of American Colleges and Universities, LEAP is designed to promote the value of a liberal or general education. Mason is one of several institutions in the country, along with Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin, piloting the program.

IN COOPERATION WITH THE FAIRFAX COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT, Mason has launched a major recruitment drive to staff the Fairfax Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), a program of the Fairfax County Citizen Corps. More than 13,000 medical and nonmedical volunteers would be needed to respond if there was a full-scale public health emergency in Fairfax County.

THE GEORGE MASON MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM earned the school's first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament this past Sunday when the 23-7 Patriots were selected as the 11th seed in the Washington, D.C., Regional. The Patriots will face the 6th seed, Michigan State University, in the opening round on Friday, March 17, in Dayton, Ohio. The Patriots will be making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in school history.

TYLER TISDELL WILL COMPETE IN THE NCAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS, scheduled for March 16-18 at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. Tisdell heads into the NCAA Championships with a 28-8 record on the season, with three falls, one technical fall and nine major decisions. Tisdell placed runner-up at the CAA Championships at the 165-pound weight class.

SENIOR MARC KELLMAN PLACED SECOND IN THE TRIPLE JUMP with a leap of 16.43 meters (53 ft. 11 in.) at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The mark is a new personal record for Kellman, topping his previous high of 16.21 meters (53 ft. 2 ¼ in.), set at last year's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, when he placed fifth in the nation in the event.

IN THE SECOND DAY OF COMPETITION AT THE NCAA ZONE 'A' DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., both junior Colleen Flack (Langhorne, Pa.) and senior Liz Gabriel (Rockville, Md.) placed in the top-18 in the 3-meter diving finals. Mason's swimming & diving teams have concluded team competition for the 2005-06 season, but junior Tom Koucheravy (Fairfax, Va.) will represent the Patriots at the 2006 Division I NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga. (Mar. 23-25).
