MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM WINS 2008 CAA CHAMPIONSHIP AND ADVANCES TO NCAA TOURNAMENT

Mason's men's basketball team will face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA tournament Thursday, March 20 in Denver, CO at 9:50 p.m. EDT.

The Mason Black Alumni Chapter invites alumni and friends to support current black students and socialize after the National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Alumni Association Hosts Scavenger Hunt at the National Zoo - Saturday, April 5 Zoo entrance

Lions, and tigers and bears - oh my! See them all on April 5 and explore the treasures of the National Zoo at this Alumni Association event designed for Mason families.  Event cost is $7.95 per person and includes souvenir button, Zoo store discount coupons, and lunch.  Prizes for all kids that complete the scavenger hunt.  Come out and explore the zoo with your Alumni Association.   RSVP online today.

See the Cherry Blossoms By Bike - Sunday, April 6

Please join fellow Alumni Association members on April 6, for a "Bike the Sites" tour of the Cherry Blossoms in DC. This tour is rated "easy" for level of difficulty and is an excellent way to see the beautiful blossoms around the Potomac Tidal Basin and East Potomac Park. Association Hosts Alumni at Virginia Gold Cup - Saturday, May 3

Once again, the Alumni Association invites you to join in the fun at the Virginia Gold Cup Races on May 3. This exciting event has been a spring tradition for the Mason Alumni Association for many years. Gold Cup entertainment starts at 10:30 a.m., and the Alumni Association's hospitality tent opens at 11:00 a.m.

Mason Freshman Earns Seat at World Economic Forum

Imagine being among a crowd of influential world leaders and listening to the likes of Bono and Al Gore discuss global problems while offering solutions to alleviate them. Even better, imagine sharing your own ideas with them. Whitney Burton, freshman global affairs major and university scholar at Mason, got to do just that. Burton landed the opportunity when she won a seat at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last month.

Mason Professors Find Math Can Optimize Cancer Treatments

How do businesses continually improve their products? The answer is rooted in one of the oldest and most classic of academic disciplines: mathematics. The recent research efforts of Mason professors Roman Polyak and Ariela Sofer demonstrate that mathematics is essential to today's most innovative technology.
Both scientists work in the field of mathematical optimization. Optimization, as the name implies, involves making something as effective as possible; mathematical optimization uses math models to achieve this.

Coach Kendrick Named to NCAA Women's Volleyball Rules Committee

George Mason head women's volleyball coach Pat Kendrick, BS '83, has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Rules Committee. The appointment is a four-year term which runs from September 1, 2008 until September 1, 2012.

#14 Men's Volleyball Gives #1 Penn State its First Loss of Season

The 14th-ranked George Mason men's volleyball team earned one of the most monumental victories in the 34-year history of the program in front of a standing-room only crowd of 1,114 at the Fieldhouse on Friday night. The Patriots 3-1 (30-23, 30-22, 17-30, 33-31) win marked the first victory over a top-ranked team in the history of the program.

#17 Women's Lacrosse Gets First Road Win of Season

No. 17 George Mason hit the road on Thursday and picked up its first victory away from George Mason Stadium this season, downing the Iona College Gaels by a final score of 15-5 in New Rochelle, N.Y. With the win, the Patriots improve to 4-1 overall, while the Gaels fall to 0-5 following the loss.
