The objective of this workshop is to introduce the general research program, summarized in the title, developed over the half-century since World War II and variously referenced under the rubric "Virginia School of Political Economy."

The workshop format is as follows: introduction, video presentation, coffee break, remarks and extended discussion with James M. Buchanan and workshop participants with times varying somewhat due to length of introductions and video presentations. Other videos available for viewing as requested. Participation is limited by available space and open to graduate students, faculty members, and visiting scholars in economics, philosophy, and related disciplines.

 

March 6: Positive Economics, Welfare Economics, and Political Economy: Introduction: Methodological lecture on constitutional political economy.

 

March 7: The Nobel Award: Nobel profile; Nobel lecture.

 

March 8: Hayek and Liberty: Interview with F. A. Hayek.

 

March 9: Afraid to Be Free: Dependency as Desideratum Survival of socialism.

 

March 10: Summary and Overview: Portions of Liberty Fund interview by Geoffrey Brennan.
