The Center's international reputation for scholarship derives from the prolific publication record of its research associates. Deeply imbedded in the Center's culture is a "seat-to-the-chair” philosophy—to paraphrase Professor James M. Buchanan—that places primary emphasis on writing books for major academic presses and articles for leading professional journals. This philosophy has borne considerable fruit over the past two decades at George Mason. More than 200 books (view a complete listing) have been published by Center faculty. In addition, Center-affiliated faculty have published thousands of articles in academic journals.
