The McLaughlin Group is a weekly public affairs television show aired nationally on over 300 public television stations, selected NBC stations and in Europe every weekend. It is known for its loud and spirited round-table discussion and for its very aggressive and confident host, John McLaughlin. John McLaughlin led the way in the United States back in 1981 by introducing this now-popular political discussion show format.
If you have never seen the show, you can watch episodes right on your computer at www.mclaughlin.com. You can also read transcripts of recent shows there.
The "production intern" position here at Oliver Productions/The McLaughlin Group is a collection of diverse experiences and includes everything from assisting writers and producers with research for issues through the internet, checking facts under deadline, making phone calls to the White House, the Pentagon, the U.S. Supreme Court, and to the offices of various U.S. Congresspersons, and assisting at the NBC-TV studio every Friday during tapings of the show. Responsibilities at the studio may include greeting and escorting The McLaughlin Group panelists and McLaughlin One on One interview guests. In addition, your experience may include giving your political ideas or research results to John McLaughlin himself and sitting in on editing sessions. Because our organization is small and not a union-organized shop, everyone, including the interns, gets to play many roles each week. This is a great opportunity for qualified candidates who have a serious interest in learning first-hand about how to translate public policy issues and politics into the idiom of television.
This is a non-paid internship.
We are looking for students who can arrange approximately 25 hours per week --especially—Thursdays from about 12pm to 8pm and Fridays from about 8:30am to 4pm.
Applicants should fax a cover letter and resume to 202-785-8670, or email to abutler@mclaughlin.com. NO PHONE CALLS, PLEASE.
