Johanna Bockman is an Assistant Professor of Global Affairs and Sociology, and the Director of the Global Affairs Program at George Mason University. She runs the Globalization and Central Faculty Workshop, which brings together faculty from a range of disciplines to further develop Central Asian Studies at Mason. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego in 2000. Her research focuses on globalization, economists, and economic thought, as well as on the social consequences of mass imprisonment. Before coming to Mason, she wrote reports during a brief stint at the Congressional Research Service on global topics, including reconstruction assistance in Afghanistan, humanitarian issues in Iraq, the U.S. domestic policy debate on Iraq, foreign support for the war on terrorism, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
