Mark S. Johnson received his MA and PhD from Columbia University and the Harriman Institute, and is currently an associate professor of history at Colorado College . His research and teaching interests include Russian and Eurasian area studies, the history of education, and contemporary educational policy. He has worked as a consultant for organizations including the Ford Foundation in Russia , the Open Society Institute, and the US Department of State. Recent projects include Education in World History (New York : Routledge, in preparation); and "Trends in Secular Educational Development in Azerbaijan and Central Asia : Implications for Social Stability and Regional Security," National Bureau of Asian Research Analysis (Seattle and Washington, DC : forthcoming).
