Mark N. Katz is a native of Riverside, California. He earned a B.A. in international relations from the University of California at Riverside in 1976, an M.A. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advance International Studies in 1978, and a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982.While writing his dissertation, he received pre-doctoral fellowships from the Institute for the Study of World Politics, the Brookings Institution, and the Earhart Foundation. In 1988, Katz became an assistant professor at George Mason University. He was promoted to associate professor in 1992, and to full professor in 1998. Katz's research focuses on Russian foreign policy (especially toward the Persian Gulf/Arabian Peninsula), the international relations of the Persian Gulf/Arabian Peninsula countries (especially Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen), and the international relations of revolutionary regimes and movements. Katz has held post-doctoral fellowships from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Kennan Institute, the United States Institute of Peace, and the Earhart Foundation. |
