Speaker Biographies: Eric Vickland

Eric Vickland is a Senior Terrorism Analyst with SRA International.  He conducts regular briefings on Central Asia and Afghanistan for the Joint Special Operations University.   He presently heads an analytical team for the Defense Intelligence Agency conducting analysis on Islamic extremism and threats to US forces in that region.  He conducted operational support on Afghanistan for the Defense Intelligence Agency in the weeks following 9/11 and has carried out regional security assessments on the Caspian Region for the Pentagon.  He received his BA in Political Science from Cal State University and his MA in International Relations from San Francisco State University.  He has lived in the former Soviet Union for two years including a year in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan where he conducted research on the Islamic extremism, clan identification, organized crime and resource scarcity in the Fergana Valley.
