To find out more about SRIF's instruments that are available for use by the GMU research community, visit the SRIF Lab Notebook. It contains detailed descriptions of each instrument, provides examples of how the instrument is used and links to a tutorial to help students learn how to use that instrument. You can also see the latest schedule of SRIF-sponsored instrument seminars or even request a seminar on a particular instrument!
The equipment and analytical instruments at SRIF are available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified researchers. Sign up sheets are available at the facility. All students who wish to use the facility for research are encouraged to attend one of the free instrumental seminars sponsored by SRIF. These seminars include an orientation to the SRIF lab and its policies as well as an introduction to the use of the analytical instrument. All researchers must understand fundamental safety procedures such as those taught in general chemistry courses. However, unlike lab courses, many different projects taking place simultaneously in the SRIF lab. Each may have unique safety hazards and special attention must be paid to lab safety. Before you begin, read the SRIF lab policy. Then print out the Online MSDS for your particular chemicals. Be sure to bring the MSDS with you. |
