STAT 501 SAS Language and Basic Procedures

Prerequisite: course in statistics and experience with Microsoft Windows.

Course Description:STAT 501 is the first of three one-credit courses on the SAS System that are given in sequence during one semester. This course reviews the data management tools in SAS and some statistical tools that are components of Base SAS. The second course, STAT 502, focuses on SAS/GRAPH. The third course, STAT 503, focuses on the SAS Macro Language. Each one-credit course has five weekly meetings. This one-credit course provides an introduction to the SAS Software System for graduate students preparing to take courses from the Statistics Department. Many applied statistic courses offered by the Statistics Department involve significant work with SAS and it is important to guarantee that students have prerequisite preparation in SAS. The courses that utilize STAT 501 as a prerequisite introduce use of the powerful SAS procedures specific to the applied course. It is important that students taking these courses have basic literacy in the SAS System so that instructors do not use time teaching prerequisite material outside of their syllabuses.
