Dr. Ioulia Rytikova, Assistant Professor of Applied Information Technology and Statistics, has received the 2008 Volgenau School Outstanding Teaching Faculty Award. Dr. Rytikova has developed several courses for the Department of Applied Information Technology and most recently has restructured and coordinated STAT 250 for the Department of Statistics. Dr. Rytikova is known to be an engaging, enthusiastic, and extremely competent teacher, and is revered by undergraduate students for making hard subjects accessible. Her teaching evaluations are consistently glowing, often scoring 4.9/5.0 in student’s overall assessment of the instructor – almost unheard of in very large sections of introductory statistics!
Dr. Rytikova is the third professor in the Department of Statistics to win this award. She joins Prof. Clifton Sutton (2000) and Prof. John Miller (2006) as recipients.
This award is somewhat bittersweet to the faculty of the Department of Statistics, as Ioulia will be leaving the Department in Fall 2008 and joining the Department of Applied Information Technology full time. The faculty wishes to congratulate Ioulia and express their appreciation for her service to the Department. We will miss her!
