Admissions are handled centrally by the Volgenau School Admissions Office. Please do not send materials to the Department of Statistics. The Department of Statistics is the primary academic unit at George Mason University for research and instruction in statistical science. Broadly defined, statistics is the science of the collection and analysis of data, and involves the use of mathematical tools, such as linear algebra, calculus, and probability, as well as computational tools complemented by modern information technology. Statistical science is critical in decision making and determining standards of evidence, and has become an invaluable resource in such diverse areas as pharmaceutical development, human genomics, economics, the national census, and many others. Our faculty perform cutting-edge research and are actively involved with federal agencies through consulting and grants and contracts.
A limited number of competitive teaching and research assistantships are available to top full-time graduate students. To facilitate part-time students who work, all graduate courses are offered one night per week after 4:30 p.m.
