DESCRIPTION

Växjö is the capital of the Kronoberg region in southeastern Sweden. It is 200 km northeast Copenhagen and 400 km southeast of Stockholm and is easily accessible by train and plane from both cities. The area is known for its forests, lakes, and unspoiled nature, making it an attractive area for nature lovers. Around Växjö, there are plenty of fascinating places to visit such as beautiful medieval churches and historical castle ruins.

Växjö University is known for its international profile with over 300 international students from around the world. Over 7,000 students attend Växjö University making it a major regional university in the southeastern part of Sweden. The campus is located in two different parts of Växjö. The school of education is housed in buildings near the center of town. All other activities are located on the modern campus of the Teleborg area.


CREDITS

Most programs consist of full-time semester of study (20 weeks) with several courses making up the curriculum. Students may enroll in a variety of courses in Political Science, Sociology, Business, Pedagogic, Humanities, TQM, Education, Swedish, Computers, Engineering, Mathematics, Communications, Management. The courses are generally upper-level and require junior status for admission. All courses are conducted in English. Examinations are held after each course and at the end of the term the student receives a cumulative grade for the program in addition to the individual grades for each course.

Students may transfer up to 15 credits per semester back to Mason, provided the letter grade is a "C" or above. The courses are transfer credit, and therefore will not factor into the GPA of the participant.

Housing

Accommodations in Växjö will be provided in student or private housing or with host families. A single student room including private bathroom is provided in student housing. Home stay arrangements include a private room, breakfast, supper and weekend meals. In some cases, students share bathrooms.

ELIGIBILITY

This program is open to Mason students ONLY. Students must be at least a second semester sophomore at the time of departure and have a minimum 2.5 GPA to qualify for most programs.

If a student applies and is accepted into the direct exchange program and then drops out of the program, they are still responsible for paying the $300 administrative fee to CGE.
