CGE HOME

Dates

Dates May 23 - June 21, 2007

DESCRIPTION

This study tour provides an exciting and rare opportunity to explore the culture, politics and histories of both Egypt and Tunisia, sites of spectacular ancient civilizations and fascinating modern societies.  The tour will begin in Egypt and will  include visits to sites of ancient Egyptian civilization like the famous Pyramids and Sphinx, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, and a Nile cruise to other important ancient Egyptian sites.  You will also visit Greco-Roman ruins in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, home of Cleopatra, and the ancient monastery of St. Catherine’s in the Sinai, situated at the base of Moses’ mountain.  And you will explore the bustling markets and lavish mosques whose minarets dot the cityscape of modern Cairo.  All the while, there will be ample opportunity to experience something of the spectacular natural settings of these sites: the Nile, the famous mountains and deserts of the Sinai peninsula, and the amazingly blue waters and beaches of the Red Sea.  This will be followed by two weeks in Tunisia, which will include visits to the ancient city of Carthage, Roman ruins and amphitheaters where “Gladiator” was filmed, and the mosques and markets of Islamic cities and fortresses of this beautiful Mediterranean country.  Have fun, learn lots, and explore a part of the world rich in history and culture that you might have thought off-limits!
