CGE HOME

tHIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LOW ENROLLMENT

Date

May 21 - June 13, 2008 (students leave on May 21)

DESCRIPTION

Come explore the extraordinary arts and cultures of Bali and Java, two of Indonesia's major islands.  This trip will begin on Java, with the museums and old Dutch port of
Jakarta, Indonesia's dynamic capital.  From there we will cross the rich tropical island of Java overland, visiting old Spice Route ports, Muslim shrines, and the palace courts of Java's sultans.  Highlights will include the World Heritage monuments of Java's Buddhist and Hindu past, at Borobudur and Prambanan, and traditional princely arts.

The trip will continue by local transit to the Hindu island of Bali, the fabulous "Island of the Gods." Our tour will emphasize the traditional performing arts in and around Ubud, in the center of Bali's ancient rice terraces.  By bus we will explore the temples, courts, and sacred landscapes of this breathtakingly beautiful place of  Yogyakarta.
