DESCRIPTION

Students will participate in the Irish Studies summer program at the National University of Ireland in Galway, Ireland. In this four week course, students will be able to study all aspects of Irish history and culture taught by NUI-Galway Faculty. Topics include: Irish History, Representing Ireland: History and Film, Archeological Heritage of Ireland, Irish society, Negotiating Identity: Irish Traditional Music and Dance, and Gaelic Culture and literature. Introductory Irish language classes will also be available to interested students.

Teaching will be by means of lectures, seminars, dramatic performances, guided tours and informed contact with the music, language and people of Ireland. An interdisciplinary approach will be used within each course and between the courses of the Irish Studies program. Students will have access to library, audio and visual facilities of the University.

Tours for the Summer 2008 program will be the Aran Islands, the Dingle penninsula, as well as a trip to An Taibhdhearc, Galway’s Gaelic Theatre or Druid Theatre.

6 undergraduate resident credits are available

 


HOUSING

Students will be housed in double occupancy student residents

FACULTY

There is no faculty director for this program. Courses will be taught by faculty at the National University of Ireland in Galway.

ELIGIBILITY

The program is open to George Mason University students only. To obtain credit, you need at least a 2.25 GPA.

COST

Program Fee: $5,495

The program fee includes:

Financial aid may apply, visit the financial aid office at your home university for details. Center for Global Education - Mason Abroad Scholarships available.

Center for Global Education - Mason Abroad reserves the right to make any necessary changes including adjustments in cost in the event that unforeseen circumstances arise.

CGE reserves the right to raise its program fees in light of currency fluctuations or any other unforeseen circumstances.

Deadline:

Participants who submit a completed application (Center for Global Education - Mason Abroad application and all required application materials) by a certain date will receive a $100 discount off the program fee.
