Adult Children of Alcoholics (60
min.)
A common family heritage follows millions of children of alcoholics into
adulthood and clouds many aspects of their adult life. This tape summarizes
the major points of the book, Adult Children of Alcoholics, which is also
available. (audio & book)
Adult Children of Alcoholics (52 min.)
In this program, famous adult children of alcoholics speak out about childhood
nightmares and adult behavior that continues to reflect the problem of a
parent's alcoholism. Some chose alcoholic partners, others developed drug,
gambling, or other addictions. All speak of the difficulties of coping with
the damage inflicted by an alcohol-centered childhood. (video)
Stories for Healing the Inner Child (79 min.)
This tape is designed to help in the healing process for those involved
in recovery. Often people in recovery have an intellectual understanding
about their recovery issues, but not the "heart understanding" -- they
know how they want to feel, but still feel the same old way. (audio)
Self-Esteem for Adult Children of Alcoholics (60 min.)
For ACOA's or anyone reared in a dysfunctional family, this tape provides
some tools to enhance self-worth. It provides relaxation and imaging techniques
to put the ACOA in touch with internal sensations, needs, feelings, and
self-talk. (audio)
It Will Never Happen to Me (60 min.)
This overview of the experience of adult children of alcoholics describes
the chaotic family environment in which feelings are not well recognized
nor are needs met, and the mistrust, low self-esteem, depression, and
sense of isolation that can result. Even those who may be highly successful
can utilize the recommended steps to take towards healing and personal
growth. (audio)
When Help Hurts: A Guide for the Enabler (30 min.*)
The enabler protects others from the consequences of their actions. By
always being helpful and self-denying, by always taking responsibility
away from others, enablers end up hurting the very people they love the
most. This video explores how people become enablers and what they can
do to change. (video)
