Christina Benedi, M.A, is the Learning Skills Counselor in the Learning Services division of GMU Counseling Center. She has a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Marymount University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from American University. She is a member of Golden Key National Honor Society. Ms. Benedi is currently in a Post-Master’s Certificate program in the GMU School of Education, working on completion of the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) requirements.
Before joining GMU’s Counseling Center, Ms. Benedi did academic, career, and personal counseling at Northern Virginia Community College, where she also taught Student Orientation courses. Ms. Benedi also did elementary school counseling for the Arlington Diocese Catholic School System under the direction of Benedictine Counseling Services, and completed her graduate internship at The Center for Multicultural Human Services in Falls Church, Virginia.
As the Learning Skills Counselor, Ms. Benedi offers individual academic skills counseling to students in order to assist them with concerns related to their academic performance and completion of coursework. She also provides academic skill-building workshops on topics including: Overview of Study Skills, Exam Strategies, Scheduling & Time Management, Improving Concentration, and Motivation & Goal-Setting. In addition, Ms. Benedi provides individual interviews and assessments to students completing the Certificate in Academic Skills (ASC) program.
Ms. Benedi is the Outreach Coordinator for Learning Services. She coordinates, as well as presents workshops and academic skills programs to the university community, including classes and student organizations. Ms. Benedi also facilitates the Academic Survival Series to support students preparing for mid-terms and finals.
Professional interests include: Motivation & Goal-Setting, the Role of Spirituality in Coping, and Learning & Cognition.
A busy working mother, in her spare time, Ms. Benedi enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, and prayer/meditation.
