Yojanna Cuenca-Sanchez, M. Ed., is the Learning Specialist in the Learning Services division of Mason’s Counseling Center. She has a Master of Education degree in Educational Psychology from George Mason University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from University of Puerto Rico. Ms. Cuenca is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Special Education with a minor in Multicultural/Multilingual education at the Mason School of Education.
Before joining Mason’s Counseling Center, Ms. Cuenca worked at the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY) as a Bilingual Outreach Coordinator/Research Analyst. In this position she provided information and resources to those serving and caring for children and youth with disabilities, was part of the research team and worked with the Spanish media to create awareness and disseminate information about disabilities and the special education law among the Latino community. Ms Cuenca also worked as a special education teacher in Puerto Rico with adolescents and young adults with intellectual disabilities. As the Learning Specialist Ms. Cuenca provides direct and consultative academic support to college students with learning disabilities (LD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD); consults with faculty and other units that support the learning process, and provides academic skills workshops and individual assessments of academic skills to students.
In her spare time, Ms Cuenca enjoys reading, studying, getting together with family and friends and traveling.
