Counseling and Psychological Services at George Mason University is offering a 16-hour-per-week Externship Training Program. CAPS provides a wide range of psychological services to the Mason community, a diverse population. The externship experience includes a training component, direct service, and administrative responsibilities in addition to opportunities for participation in other Center activities.
The training component includes didactic seminars, case presentations, and individual and group supervision. The didactic seminars cover a broad range of topics related to clinical practice. Case presentations afford trainees the opportunity to present their clinical work with clients to the entire staff and receive feedback. Externs will receive two hours of individual supervision and one hour of group supervision each week. Some supervision may be provided by pre-doctoral psychology interns, who will themselves be supervised by licensed psychologists.
Each extern is expected to carry seven direct client hours and be on site for two full days each week. Participation in consultation and outreach, group co-facilitation, and workshop presentations are also possible. The externship week also includes at least two hours of administrative time.
To access more extensive information about our Center and the services we provide, see our web site at: caps.gmu.edu. To apply, please submit a cover letter, a current vita, an unofficial transcript, and two letters of recommendation to the address below. Applications must be received no later than March 10, 2008.
