Self-Esteem


The Self-Development Center provides a media library of personal growth and academic skills programs available to students, faculty, and staff at George Mason University. Media programs may be used in the Self-Develoipment Center during the hours the Center is open. Faculty and staff at GMU may check out programs overnight or over a weekend. Students may check out programs to use for classroom or group presentations. These programs are not for sale or rent to persons outside of the University. If the program is marked with an asterisk (*), ask the receptionist for the handout or written materials that accompany it.

Becoming Who You Want to Be (87 min.)
This tape discusses the principles and strategies for using both the conscious and unconscious mind to create a positive self-image. It contains both theory and practical techniques. (audio)

In this 6-tape series, Denis Waitley offers help on building your child's self-esteem and insight on how our own self-esteem developed. Methods for fostering responsibility, disciplining, and nurturing creativity are explored. (audio)
Learning to Love Yourself: Finding Your Self-Worth (60 min.)

Love Yourself, Heal Your Life Workbook (own pace)
This workbook for You Can Heal Your Life includes exercises to help you apply techniques of self-love and positive thinking to topics such as self- esteem, fears, health, addictive behavior, intimacy and more. (book)
Positive Self-Esteem (own pace)
A handbook for promoting positive self-esteem, this program provides a hands-on approach to lifting low self-esteem, provides an evaluation of the users self-esteem, and suggests ways in which it can be improved. (CD Rom)
Power of Self-Image Psychology (15-25 min.*)
In this 12 part series, you examine how your self-images affect self-esteem, goal achievement, financial success, decision-making ability, ability to handle pressure, communication skills, and other vital areas responsible for personal and career growth. (audio)
Self-Esteem (20 min.*)
Using real-life examples, this two-video program discusses the causes of low self-esteem, how to recognize and avoid low self-esteem traps, and how to raise one's self-esteem through positive thinking and realistic goal setting. (video)

This tape extols your own virtues and helps build your self-esteem, leading you to greater success in whatever challenges you face. (audio)
The Science of Self-Confidence (60 min.)
Brian Tracy provides a practical plan of action to develop self-confidence. He suggests that self-esteem is a state of mind and a set of attitudes that can be learned by using proven, practical methods and techniques practiced by winners and achievers in every field. (audio)

The Self-Esteem Workout Video (30 min.*)
This video includes over 30 exercises that can help you raise your self-esteem. Use the exercises to develop a kind inner voice, appreciate your body, set boundaries, nurture yourself, find your life's passion, and more. (video)
Women and Self-Esteem (90 min.)
These two tapes offer support and guidance for women with low self-esteem. Learn how women's self-attitudes are formed by various aspects of society, and discover exercises to help the listener conquer low self-esteem issues and provide valuable suggestions leading toward a healthy and fulfilling life. You Can Heal Your Life (2 hr.)
The key message of this video is, "If we are willing to do the mental work, almost anything can be healed." It can help you learn to love and accept yourself exactly as you are. (video)
