Sexual Assault


The Self-Development Center provides a media library of personal growth and academic skills programs available to students, faculty, and staff at George Mason University. Media programs may be used in the Self-Develoipment Center during the hours the Center is open. Faculty and staff at GMU may check out programs overnight or over a weekend. Students may check out programs to use for classroom or group presentations. These programs are not for sale or rent to persons outside of the University. If the program is marked with an asterisk (*), ask the receptionist for the handout or written materials that accompany it.

But I Thought You Wanted To... Cultural Differences in Rape & Sexual Harassment (25 min*.)
Four scenarios depicting situations of sexual assault or harassment are presented along with alternatives for handling or avoiding the situation. This tape should be used in consultation with a counselor. (video)
Can't You See Me? Campus Crime Prevention Program (20 min.*)
One quarter of women in college today have been victims of rape or attempted rape, and over 50% of college women experience some sort of sexual victimization. This music video will stimulate awareness and understanding of the facts, emotions and consequences of acquaintance rape. It's accompanied by a presentation and discussion guide of the critical issues involved in sexual aggression in campus acquaintance relationships. (video)

Recovering from Rape (own pace)
Recovering from Rape provides practical advice on overcoming the trauma of sexual assault and the stress of coping with police, hospitals and the courts. (book)

If She is Raped (43 min.)
This classic best-seller helps parents, husbands, and male friends to share the victim's burden rather than unknowingly add to her pain. Dr. McEvoy, on video, provides a persuasive presentation to augment and reinforce what counselors tell clients. (video)

Playing the Game (60 min.*)
This video about acquaintance rape provokes frank, honest discussion about personal responsibility, gender differences in communication, and peer pressure. It explores the emotionally sensitive, complex attitudes of male/female sexual expression. This tape should be used in consultation with a counselor. (video)
