Roy Stefanik

Psychological
Services

Before attending medical school, Dr. Stefanik received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Rutgers University in 1982 and worked as a registered pharmacist. Upon completing his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Des Moines University in 1988, he did his internship at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA and his residency in psychiatry at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Afterwards he served as Medical Director of the University of Virginia psychiatric inpatient unit at the Culpeper, VA facility before coming to Mason.

Since 2001, Dr. Stefanik has been providing psychiatric consultation for both Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Student Health Services at Mason on a part-time basis. He meets regularly with the staff from both departments to discuss initial evaluations of students, therapeutic approaches, treatment plans, medication management, and current treatment trends. Students seen by Dr. Stefanik at the CAPS have their needs assessed from a full range of perspectives - medical, psychologic, and social. After the initial visit, psychiatric services for students are provided temporarily at the CAPS until arrangements for longer-term outpatient care are made.

In addition, Dr. Stefanik has a private practice in Centreville, VA and is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in adult psychiatry and continues to maintain hospital privileges at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
