Professor of economics David Levy's Ph.D is from the University of Chicago in a thesis directed by the Nobel Laureate George Stigler. He was previously awarded the department citation as the outstanding undergraduate in economics at the University of California at Berkeley. Levy is a specialist in the impact of expenditures on research and development on productivity as well as the role of ethics in consumer choice. Both of these research areas involve taking seriously the notion that ideas, be they scientific or ethical, have consequences. He is the author or co-author of more than 42 articles and has written "The Economic Ideas of Ordinary People," published in 1992.
