Ronald A. Heiner, professor of economics, received his Ph.D from
UCLA in 1975, after which he joined the economics department at
Brigham Young University. During the following period up to 1988,
he had visiting professorships at UCLA, the Institute for Advanced
Study at Princeton, and the Russell Sage Foundation. He moved to
George Mason University in 1989. He has received the Elliot Jones
Award from the Western Economic Association in 1974 and the Karl
G. Maeser Research Award from Brigham Young University in 1988.
His research has focused on formal decision theory; with numerous
publications in the main economics journals. These include papers
on the Theory of the Firm, Consumer Theory, Collective Choice Theory;
and on the Theory of Imperfect Invoice and Rule Governed Behavior.
More recently, he was sponsored by the Volkswagen Foundation as
a visiting research professor at the Universitat des Saarlands,
in Saarbrucken, Germany, during May-June 1994; resulting in new
research in game theory on the prisoner's dilemma and cooperation
vs conflict analysis.
