Library Catalog | ||||

The Library Catalog is the database that lets us know all the books and other materials (called Holdings) owned by the four Mason libraries (the Johnson Center and Fenwick on the Fairfax campus and one each on the Prince William and Arlington campuses). We locate the Library Catalog from the University Libraries’ homepage at http://library.gmu.edu by clicking on MASON under the Library Catalog heading:
Let's see what we can find in the Library Catalog with our search statement:
Since I don't really know much about global warming, I'll ask the database to check the available sources by selecting my keyword in the Find Results box instead of the other choices. I click on the "Search" button and come up with thirteen entries (or "hits"):
As I scroll through the list, I think that some of the entries look promising.
None of the titles actually have causes in their titles but I am also looking for consequences and controversy so I'll go ahead and include those titles, too. I click in the little box at the left of my choices and scroll down to the end of the Search Results screen to the Save Options box. Under Records, I click on "Selected on page" and in Format Type, I select "Text File." I then print out the results but I notice I could also save to my disk, if I wanted to. Looking down the list again, I decide to look more closely at record [7] Global warming to see what its fields might tell me about the book.
The fields in this record give me a lot of good information about how useful this source might be. I see, for example, that:
