The Washington Classical Society is a non-profit educational organization
dedicated to promoting an appreciation of the cultural legacy of Classical
Greece and Rome throughout the National Capital area. Incorporated in 1963
and open to everyone with an interest in the Classics, the WCS honors the
vital contributions of classical Mediterranean culture to Western
civilizatgion, while upholding the finest creations of Antiquity as models of
style and lasting sources of inspiration. Through meetings, lectures and the
publication of its newsletter The Capitolium, WCS seeks to increase public
awareness of the many enduring issues addressed by the Classical tradition,
as well as to emphasize its historic role in American education and culture.
By conveying the living presence of Classical ideals to the community at
large, the Washington Classical Society strives to make the timeless wisdom
and grandeur of our Classical heritage accessible to all.
