Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies (minor code is PRLS)

will be introduced to the theoretical models of leisure and the applied
aspects
of planning, administering, and evaluating parks and recreation
programs in an inclusive environment. Exposure to professional coursework

Tourism and Events Management (minor code is TEM)
Completion of the following
18 credit hours of required coursework will expose students to the dynamics
of the travel and tourism industry at the local, domestic and international
level. Coursework will cover the management, planning, implementation and
evaluation of special events (e.g., concerts, conventions, festivals, sports
etc.), as well as resort recreation enterprises, nature-based tourism and
historical and cultural attractions. Students can also elect to learn about
sustainable tourism, tourism on public lands, marketing and other relevant
topics. They can also choose to take a practicum, which is a paid or voluntary
work experience in a tourism or event management industry setting.

field of exercise science and its related disciplines. Professional preparation
will involve a fundamental knowledge of kinesiology, exercise physiology,
nutrition as well as the scientific basis to fitness testing and exercise
prescriptions. Students will learn how exercise and fitness programming
takes place in a variety of settings.

issues in our society.

as well as applied aspects of management, marketing and financing within
the sports industry. Coursework will expose students to professional and
amateur sport entertainment, goods, and services. Students will learn the
psychological aspects of sport participation and explore gender, race and
ethical issues.
