Overview:

A survey of the thinking of the major Austrian philosophers from Bolzano, Mach and Meinong to Wittgenstein, Popper and the Vienna Circle. Special attention will be paid to the work of Brentano and his school on intentionality, mind, and the foundations of ontology. Evaluation will be based upon a series of four short essays, with two optional make-up quizzes at the end of the semester. Students attending less than 75% of the sessions will have their grade reduced.
