Undergraduate Academic Advisor of the Year

Excellence in academic advising is crucial to student success. All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to vote for the undergraduate Academic Advisor of the Year by accessing the following website: http://advisoroftheyear.gmu.edu. The procedures, eligibility, criteria and nomination form are available on the website. The undergraduate Academic Advisor of the Year will be honored on March 28 at the Academic Advising Roundtable Luncheon. Congratulations to Rachel Mains, February's ITU Employee of the Month

Rachel is Manager of Special Projects for Desktop Support Services in Fairfax. Rachel makes sure to fully understand each person's issues, reaffirms them with each, takes action on their issues, and then relays the prudent information to each person involved. She consistently is a great asset to any situation, group, team, or organization with which she is involved. She provides insight, experience, and unique facets to complicated problems that bring projects to successful conclusions. Her attention to detail and can do attitude are infectious.

Rachel goes above and beyond her duties in coordinating the MESA conversion by checking in on departments on occasion to see how they're doing with the new MESA system. Her management style of encouraging growth of knowledge is worth noting. Rachel and people like her are what make ITU and Mason a place so desired to work at. She is dedicated to providing quality service to all of her customers, whether they are staff members being migrated to MESA or other teams within the ITU that rely on her to provide information.

Join Rachel on Friday, February 8 at 11:30 am in Mason Hall, Room D105, as she receives her award as ITU Employee of the Month.

Filing Cabinet Safety Tips

Follow these guidelines to prevent accidents when using filing cabinets:
• Fill lower drawers first.
• Evenly disperse materials between all drawers.
• Open one drawer at a time. Close drawers not in use.
• Do not overload drawers.
• Do not store heavy objects on top of cabinets.
• Consider relocating file cabinets to prevent obstructing an aisle way.
• Periodically purge files so files are not packed too tightly.
• Empty cabinets before moving.

If you have any safety concerns or concerns about this article, contact the Environmental Health and Safety Office, 993-8448.
