Law School to Award 249 Degrees on Saturday, May 21, 2005
The George Mason University School of Law will award degrees
to 249 graduates at the annual Convocation Ceremony to be
held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in Concert Hall
on the Fairfax Campus. A total of 232 students will receive
their Juris Doctor degrees, and 7 students will receive
a Juris Master degree. In addition, 10 students will be
awarded the Master of Laws degree, 8 in Law and Economics
and 2 in Intellectual Property.
The graduating class elected Assistant Professor of Law
Michelle Boardman to be the faculty speaker. Boardman received
her J.D. from the University of Chicago and her B.A.from
Brown University. After graduating from the University of
Chicago Law School, Boardman clerked for Judge Frank H.
Easterbrook of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. She
joined the George Mason faculty in 2002 after practicing
appellate law for several years with Wiley Rein & Fielding.
The student speakers, who are also elected by the graduating class, will be Daniel L. Voss,
Day Class
and Joseph Decker,
Evening Class. Matt Conrad, President of the Student Bar Association, will also speak.
The guest speaker will be Claude A. Allen who currently
serves as the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy,
in which capacity he advises the President on all domestic,
noneconomic issues. Allen previously served as the Deputy
Secretary for the United States Department of Health and
Human Services. Prior to joining HHS, Allen held several
positions in the Virginia state government, including Counsel
to the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and Secretary
of Health and Human Resources. He received a J.D. and a
LL.M. from Duke University Law School and a B.A. from the
University of North Carolina.
