In order to manage the limited parking facilities at the Arlington campus, George Mason University employs the Parking Lot ID Card Access System and Lot Management Program. To operate the card access you need to swipe your Campus ID through the reader. The gate should rise to allow entrance - a Parking Services attendant is available to assist with any problems you may encounter.
In order to park on site you are required to have a valid Decal. Parking with a valid decal is available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The lot is open to all users on Saturday and Sunday.
There is NO overnight parking permitted with out authorization. Authorization for overnight parking may be obtained from the Campus Operations Coordinator.
Parking Lot Enforcement Hours: 7:00 am - 12 midnight.
Off-Site Parking:
Long-term (10 hours) meters are available along North Fairfax
Drive, near St. Charles Catholic Church.
Security Service:
University Police provide an escort service to and from
the Virginia Square/GMU metro parking lot and the Arlington
Campus.
Parking Fees for Students/Faculty/Staff:
Annual decal: $160.00
Semester decal : $90.00
Handicap Parking:
George Mason University temporary and long-term handicapped
parking permits for students, faculty and staff are obtained
from Parking Services. These permits are the same price
as the parking fees listed above. A valid Mason ID and proof
of disability is required (i.e. a doctor's note, DMV hangtag).
DMV permits alone are not sufficient in Mason handicapped
spaces.
Stack Parking
Stack parking is used on the Arlington Campus when the lot
is deemed full by the parking attendants. This method of
parking is designed to increase the number of cars that
can be placed on the lot and it is VOLUNTARY. If the lot
is full when you pull in, the attendant will ask you if
you wish to leave your car with the attendant (stack parked).
If you agree, then the following procedures will apply:
When the lot reaches capacity, a sign will be posted and customers will be offered the option of leaving their cars in the drive aisles. The ignition key will be left with the vehicle so the lot attendant can move it if necessary. The attendant will give the customer the claim check portion of a two-part ticket. The second part of the ticket will be put on the vehicle to identify the vehicle as belonging to the customer. The keys to the vehicle will be left with the vehicle and will be secured with a key lock within the car. The key lock is a clamping device which when secured to the key makes it impossible to use. Upon the customer's return, the attendant will release the ignition key and relinquish custody of the vehicle. Customers not willing to park under these conditions will be informed that the lot is full and that they will have to park off-site. Two key issues:
1. Your car will remain unlocked while stack parked. Your ignition key will be secure, but items left in your vehicle will not be.
2. Per University Services Office, all parking on GMU lots is 'at the users risk'. Neither GMU, nor their contractor, Colonial Parking, will be responsible for stolen items or damages to your vehicle.
