Tissue Prep Equipment

The Center uses a variety of instruments to collect and prepare tissue samples for proteomic analysis. This includes:

Veritas Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM)

The Veritas Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) system is the method of choice for thousands of researchers worldwide. Veritas Microdissection is the only instrument to offer both LCM and Laser Cutting, providing unmatched flexibility. UV Laser Cutting provides unprecedented speed and precision. It is ideal for non-soft tissues and capturing large numbers of cells. LCM is a gentle technique, maximizing biomolecule integrity. It is ideal for single cells or small number of cells. It can isolate cells of interest quickly and conveniently. The Veritas Microdissection can cut and capture structures from multiple tissue sections or cytological samples with just a few mouse clicks. The AutoScan feature assures identification and capture of cells of interest.

PixCell ® IIe Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) System (2 units)

Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) enables you to dramatically increase the sensitivity and accuracy of molecular assays by starting with samples of homogeneous cell types and multi-cellular structures isolated from whole tissue or cytology samples. This unique approach to microdissection-developed in 1996 at the National Institutes of Health and available exclusively from Arcturus-ensures that biological molecules such as RNA and DNA, remain undamaged during the microdissection process. Downstream molecular analysis of these molecules produces accurate and assured results that have led to over 300 peer-reviewed publications by independent researchers.

Dako Autostainer Universal Staining System (2 units)

The Dako Autostainer Universal Staining System allows a multitude of staining procedures and processing of specimens to be performed automatically, rapidly and reproducibly. It is well-suited for immunostaining of tissue sections, cytospins and cell smears, and for special staining of tissue components. The system has three integrated elements: 1) Dako Autostainer Instrument - This unit consists of a slide processor, a desktop personal computer with software, and a printer. 2) Reagents - Ready-to-use antibodies, negative controls, visualization kits, special stains and accessory reagents. 3) Slide-Labeling System - Prints customized labels directly from the Dako Autostainer software.
