Undergraduate Programs
The
undergraduate degree programs from the former Department of
Biology are now administered by the Department of Molecular
and Microbiology. The degree programs remain the same and
students' academic programs are unaffected. Classes will be
taught by the faculty from MMB as well as by the faculty from
the Department of Environmental
Science and Policy (ESP).
Classes adminstered by this program have the BIOL acronym.
Admissions
and degree requirements are listed in the individual program
pages and the GMU catalog.
Degrees:
Bachelor of Arts in Biology
Bachelor
of Science in Biology
Bachelor
of Science in Medical Technology
Master's
of Science in Biology
The
Master's of Science in Biology
degree from the former Department of Biology is now administered
by the Department of Molecular and Microbiology. This core
life science discipline offers the same diversity of concentrations
and is now taught both by faculty in MMB and by faculty from
the Department of Environmental
Science and Policy (ESP).
Classes
adminstered by this program have the BIOL acronym.
Admissions
and degree requirements are listed in the individual program
pages and the GMU catalog.

PhD in Biosciences
Recent
advances in molecular biology have produced an avalanche of
data, including DNA sequences and genetic maps that cover
hundreds of thousands of genes whose functions are poorly
understood or completely unknown. An understanding of gene
interactions at the genome level will eventually lead toward
the development of the knowledge base required to explain
the complex processes regulating biological functions. The
Biosciences
PhD Program explores functional genomics through
the use of DNA
sequencing and microarrays
and
biotechnology through
targeted gene fusions, and combinatorial chemistry.
Classes
adminstered by this program have the
BIOS acronym. Admissions
and degree requirements are listed in the individual program
pages and the GMU catalog.
