Welcome to the Undergraduate Biology Program

The degree programs from the former Department of Biology are now administered by the Department of Molecular and Microbiology (MMB). The degree programs remain the same and students' academic programs are unaffected. Classes will be taught by the faculty from MMB as well as by the faculty from the Department of Environmental Science and Policy (ESP).

Accelerated Five Year BS/MS Program

The Department of Molecular and Microbiology offers an accelerated five-year BS/MS program with a concentration in Microbiology or Molecular Biology.

All of the requirements for the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Science with a Concentration in Molecular Biology or Microbiology must be met. The Bachelor of Science is conferred upon satisfactory completion of 120 credits. The Master of Science is conferred after the satisfactory completion of an additional 24 credits. Six credits of graduate work may be used in partial satisfaction of the requirements of the undergraduate degree, and gives the student advanced standing in the MS program.

B.S. in Medical Technology

The Medical Technology Program requires the equivalent of three years of preprofessional studies at the college level followed by twelve months of clinical training at an affiliated school of medical technology. The following must be completed in addition to the general education requirements: 20 hours of biology including Cell Biology, Animal Biology, Microbiology, Genetics and Immunology; one year of general chemistry and one year of organic chemistry, six hours of math, one hour of seminar and MTCH 200 Intro to Medical Technology.

Biology B.S. with a Speciality in Biotechnology

Students pursuing a B.S. in biology may choose to specialize in biotechnology. A selection of lecture and laboratory courses provides essential skills to students seeking employment in the field or who desire graduate work in this area.

In addition to the general requirements for the B.S. degree in Biology, the following courses are required: Cell Structure and Function, Animal Biology, Plant Biology, Biology of Microorganisms with Laboratory, Ecology, General Genetics and Seminar or Honors Seminar.
