Dr. Lisa A. Billingham, Co-Director of Music Education (Choral), Coordinator of Graduate Studies
Status: full-time professor
Teaching Positions: University Chorale, Teaching Vocal Music in Secondary Schools, Topics in Music, Graduate Lecture Recital, Independent Study, Thesis, Studies for the PhD in Education

B.M.E., Indiana University; M.M., University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory; D.M.A., University of Arizona. Dr. Billingham conducts the University Chorale and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in choral music education. She is the co-advisor for the GMU student chapters of American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference. She is also the Repertoire & Standards Chair for Youth and Student Activities for Virginia ACDA.
As a Certified Laban Movement Analyst, Dr. Billingham's research interests include the incorporation of Laban Movement Theory in conducting pedagogy and the choral rehearsal. She is currently writing a textbook on Laban Movement Theory and Conducting Practice: The Complete Conductors Guide to Laban Movement Theory, for GIA Publications. Dr. Billingham is active as a clinician and guest conductor for conferences and choirs throughout the United States.
Her conducting mentors include Bruce Chamberlain, James Jordan, Maurice Skones and Volker Hempfling. She is a former faculty member of Central Missouri State University, and has vast public school experience at the middle school and high school levels from Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois and North Carolina.
