James Carroll, Director of Jazz Studies
Status: full-time, PMI professor
Teaching Positions: Development of Jazz, Jazz Studies, Jazz Ensemble (Instrumental), Jazz Improvisation I, Private Music Instruction in Jazz

B.M., M.M., Indiana University; saxophonist, The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra; founding conductor, Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. Professional career has included performances at Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theatre, the Hollywood Bowl, the White House, and Royal Albert Hall. Artist collaborations include Mel Torme, Johnny Mathis, Nancy Wilson, Doc Severenson, Henry Mancini, and Michael Jackson, and has soloed with Clark Terry, Bobby Short, Sir Roland Hanna, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Quintet. Former soloist, Columbus Symphony. Group committments have included the Indiana Saxophone Quartet, Jazz Arts Group of Columbus, United States "Pershing's Own" Army Band, Woody Herman Orchestra.
