| B.M., University of Alabama; M.M., Cleveland Institute of Music; Fulbright Scholar; D.M., Indiana University. Studied with Michael Johnson, Bernard Adelstein, Charles Gorham, Friedemann Immer, Petur Masseurs and Steve Hendrickson. Adept not only in modern orchestra and band trumpet playing, Dr. Curtis also specializes in baroque trumpet and cornetto. He has soloed with the Milwaukee Baroque, Washington Bach Consort, the Orchestra of the 17th Century, the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, and the Nederlandse Kantorij. A member of the United States Navy Band, he performs regularly with the U. S. Navy Band Brass Quartet. He also has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, Indianapolis, Owensboro, Akron and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestras. He founded and leads the Washington baroque trumpet ensemble, "Battaglia." He has hosted the Historic Division of the National Trumpet Competition since 2004, collaborating with baroque trumpeters Crispian Steele-Perkins and Friedemann Immer. In addition, Dr. Curtis has arranged trumpet ensemble showcases for the 2001 International Trumpet Guild Conference and the 2006 National Trumpet Competition as well as soloed on and composed his original composition Concerto for Brass Quartet and Band with the US Navy Band. |
