General Information

Music students benefit from a rich range of courses, including performance studies, musicology, music theory and composition, world music, history of jazz, popular music, music in technology, and music administration. Students benefit from workshops and seminars presented through the Center for Arts and Wellness. These academic offerings help equip students with the knowledge and training necessary to develop optimal performance skills and avoid overuse injuries and paralyzing performance anxiety. Music education majors are offered courses necessary for meeting state requirements and the demands of today’s school music teachers. The department’s collegiate affiliations include membership in the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference, American Choral Director's Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda Honors Fraternity. They also regularly interact with the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association and other such organizations.
