International Development Communication Internship

Counterpart International: Building a Just World Though Service and Partnerships.

Our communications team is responsible for spreading the word about the worldwide work of Counterpart from press releases, website content, producing a quarterly newsletter, and assisting our Fundraising team with outreach to donors. Counterpart also works with a large PR firm based in New York that assists us with greater outreach to new media outlets. The team will be spending much time in the spring preparing materials for this firm. The communications team is an integral part of the organization, working at many levels with all departments of Counterpart. Interns will learn about a large variety of development and humanitarian assistance programs and projects in order to help create materials for release.

About the Internship:
· Spring Semester
· Immediate opening
· UNPAID
· UNDERGRADUATES preferred
· Course Credit Encouraged

Skills:
Strong PC computer skills required (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer required; Quark Express, Photoshop preferred)
Strong writing skills required
Clear verbal communication skills necessary
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision
Must be able to work in a changing atmosphere with many projects going on at once, keeping pace with changing priorities

Duties:
(Including, but not limited to)
Draft news releases
Respond to requests from CEO
Help with mailings
Attend internal meetings with various staff representing different divisions
Occasional note-taking at meetings
Attend meetings outside of the office related to Communications and International Development in the DC area
Editing written content for readability, cohesiveness, length limits
Managing media acknowledgements
Learning to use Counterpart web system – adding photos, updating content (will be taught limited HTML to compete these tasks)
Liaising with outside consultants and vendors
Other administrative duties including Switchboard duty (approximately 10%)

Schedule flexible – 2-3 days total preferred.
Excellent work atmosphere, Headquarters staff of about 50 people
