Volunteer Leader Program for 2008 Summer Olympics

Program Outline


CCInternational is recruiting 30 Volunteer Leaders from Universities and Colleges in the United States to lead teams of volunteers who will provide support to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Basic Requirements for Leaders
  1. Ability to commit to complete leadership training Summer 2007 and return for the August 6 -26, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games;
  2. Born prior to (but including) June 30, 1990, and in good health;
  3. Abide by China's laws and regulations;
  4. Able to participate in the pre-Game trainings and related activities;
  5. Able to serve for more than seven days running during the Olympic Games;
  6. Complete Chinese language training prior to July 2008 (Online course provided by CCInternational)
  7. Participate in recruiting and training volunteer team members for 2008 Olympic Games

Leaders will complete a Leadership Training Program during the summer of 2007. Leaders will be trained to lead 10 person volunteer teams during the 2008 Olympic Games.

Training content
  1. General training: basic Olympic knowledge, brief introduction to the Beijing Olympic Games, Chinese history and traditional culture, history and cultural life in Beijing, knowledge and skills necessary to serve the disabled, etiquette norm, medical knowledge and first-aid skills, etc;
  2. Professional training: professional knowledge and skills required in voluntary services;
  3. Venue training: venue functions, knowledge concerning the sports held in the venue, internal facilities, organizational structure, rules and regulations, etc'
  4. Job training: job responsibilities, specific activities, business procedures, and operating norms, etc.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival to Beijing and hotel check in
  • Day 2/3: Orientation, Crash course in Chinese, Visits to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square; Seminar on Chinese history and culture
  • Day4/5: Hike and volunteer at the Great Wall
  • Day 6/7: Tour in Beijing including Olympic site visits
  • Day 8: Free day. Evening train to Xi'an
  • Day 9: Tour Xi'an including Terra Cotta Warrior Museum
  • Day 10: City tour in Xi'an. Evening train to Chengdu
  • Day 11: Bus to Wolong Panda Conservation Center. Check in hotel in Wolong
  • Day 12: Volunteer work at Wolong Panda Conservation Center
  • Day 13: Take pictures with panda and receive volunteer certificates at Wolong Panda Center in the morning. Bus back to Chengdu. Evening fly to Beijing
  • Day 14: Depart for the US from Beijing

Program ends

The third week - optional independent travel (not included in Program Fee)
  • Day 13 continued: check in hotel in Chengdu
  • Day 14: Tour LeShan Buddha Mountain
  • Day 15: City tour Chengdu; Fly to Shanghai
  • Day 16/17/18/19/20: tour Shanghai and nearby attractions such as Suzhou, Zhouzhuang, Yellow Mountain and Hangzhou
  • Day 21: depart from Shanghai back to the US

Volunteer leaders will continue be responsible for continued training and networking activities during the 2007/ 2008 school year. (approx: 10 hours per month) These activities include:

  • Conducting on campus informational meetings
  • Providing information to prospective volunteers
  • Completion of on-line Chinese language course
  • Completion of additional Olympic Game Volunteer Training
  • Completion of First Aid/ CPR Training

Program Fees

The program service fee includes:
  • Visa application
  • Airports/Train stations pick-up and drop-off
  • Hotel accommodation
  • Group meals
  • China domestic airfare and train tickets
  • Olympic volunteer training
  • Chinese classes both in Beijing and On-line
  • Tours and projects coordination
  • Local transportation for group events in Beijing, Xi'an, Wolong, Chengdu, and Shanghai
  • Community services/volunteer work arrangement on the Great Wall and Wolong Panda Conservation Center
  • Tours to sites where the Olympic events will take place in Beijing
  • Entry to Wolong Panda Conservation Center
  • Work attire rentals at Wolong Panda Conservation Center
  • Volunteer certificates
Program Service Fee: $2490.00 per person (International airfare not included)

Note: Volunteers who complete leader training and return for the 2008 Olympic Games to lead volunteer teams will not be required to pay the service fee in 2008. Leaders service fee is waived in 2008. (International airfare not included)
