Volunteer
& Internship
Opportunities

Volunteering at NVMS
NVMS has a continuing need for volunteer assistance to carry out its important mission.  While we do use volunteer mediators in our community cases, our greatest need is in the area of case management, program management and outreach. That's why most of our volunteer and internship positions are oriented around these tasks.

Mediators
Most of our mediator positions are filled by invitation as we get to know mediators who take our training, volunteer in our office or use our co-mediation services. However, from time to time we need to add new experienced mediators, Virginia certified mediators, or volunteer community mediators to our roster. Use the application form on this page for all mediator positions and just check the appropriate boxes for your area of interest.

Internships
NVMS has many internship opportunities each year and welcomes inquiries. Please review our internhship positions to the left and fill out an application. You can fax it to us at 703-993-3551 or send it to us by mail at 4260 Chain Bridge Road, Suite A-2, Fairfax, Virginia 22030.

Internships are Usually Unpaid
Most internships are unpaid, but interns can gain valuable experience in mediation, case management, working with clients and nonprofit organizations. Some internships are occasionally paid, usually through a grant, and we sometimes hire summer and part-time help for our office. These are posted on our site on the employment page

Benefits for Volunteers & Interns
Volunteers and interns who agree to work a minimum of 160 hours or more may be able to take advangtage of free training and co-mediation opportunities. Not all workshops are available and sometimes we have to cancel due to low registration so discuss this with your NVMS contact before signing up for a volunteer or intern position so that we can clarify your expectations.
