The
Accelerated Master’s Program
Philosophy majors with a strong record are encouraged to apply to the
Accelerated Master’s Program in Philosophy. On admission to this
program students may be able to complete a B.A. and an M.A. in Philosophy
in 5 years.
Here is how it works
You are eligible to apply to the Accelerated M.A. in Philosophy if you
have completed at least 70 credits and no more than 90 credits of undergraduate
work. Upon admission to the program and after you have completed 90 credits
you will be given senior plus status. This status will allow you to register
for graduate courses for graduate credit while you are still an undergraduate.
Six credits of graduate work will be applied to the undergraduate major.
These credits will also be accepted as fulfilling part of the M.A. degree
requirements. You will need to work with your advisor to determine which
graduate courses are best for you.
Once you have completed the 120 credits you need for your B.A. degree
you may take 6 more graduate credits and hold them in reserve (i.e. do
not apply them toward graduation) for the M.A. requirements. This means
that you can take up to 12 credits of graduate work while still an undergraduate
that will be applied toward your M.A. degree. Upon graduation you will
automatically be admitted to the M.A. program in Philosophy.
