    1. Nash asked about the status of RA-ships, given the new budget constraints. Schwartzstein replied that she will meet with VPres. Kidd soon, will bring that issue up and provide an answer.

III. Approval of February 2001 minutes

Minutes were approved as written.

IV. Old Business

    1. Enrollment committee. Christensen handed out a report and list of recommended actions. Stearns went over the actions. He stressed the importance of having a person answer phone questions during established hours and having a single POC in the admissions office to whom departments can refer interested students. There was also discussion on the need for a central database of prospective students. Departments could refer general inquiries to the POC and the POC could refer specific inquiries to departments. Stearns would like to devote more Grad Council time to enrollment issues, so this item will be on the agenda for the foreseeable future.
    2. Graduate student Survey. A number of the members objected to Institutional Assessment's practice of telling students that diplomas will be withheld unless they complete a graduate student survey and to having students attach their student number to it. Gentemann responded that those practices were to improve the response rate and to obviate the need for students to provide demographic information. Numerous suggestions were made of ways to get students to respond to the survey without resorting to such measures and also suggested giving students the option of providing demographic data or ID number.
    3. 30-day posting. Proposed, seconded and approved that the Grad Council will have a 15-day posting period for course and program changes.
